Robam and others,
just because the word 鬼子 stared by something in history does not make it right to use it now. It is no different then any other racist term. every racist term has a history. 鬼子 is racist, plain and simple. I am fully aware of where the term came from. however that is not the point. the point is how it is being used now. ACTUALLY, it's great that others pointed out where the term came from. this so because 鬼子, is an EVIL term that describes a Japanese army man in china during WW2. I have seen the photos, 南京, been to the 731 博物馆 in 哈尔滨 and KNOW the awful things that went on. HOWEVER, to call a person a 鬼子now is like putting them in the same category as one of those evil WW2 Japanese army men. Think about it.
