I also have the same problem. I've tried all these things mentioned here and improved my memory. What I've noticed is that if you add a good sleep, laugh more and don't worry too much you can have better results. However, I think one is born with a good memory and rarely can get by in life.

find that these 6 memorizing strategies work the best . Associate. Use basic characteristics of memory to learn new material. Visualize. Use mental imagery to support goals, rehearse skills and reinforce other techniques. Verbalize. Use words and writing to learn faster. Simulate. Simulate real-life performances using basic or advanced tools. Perform. Use specific techniques to learn skills and behaviors. Repeat. Use repetition techniques to help you lock in what you’ve learned.

Try to look for on Internet keywords like: mnemotechnics, art of memory, memory techniques, Hermann Ebbinghaus, brain and memory. In the ancient and modern bibliography you will find other fundamental keywords : Visualization, Imagination, Repetition. Remember (! :D) to memorize after having found a meaning in what you are learning. That meaning could/will evolve in time but is a necessary base. :-)

What I do is...er, what was it you wanted to improve again? Seriously, I try to associate new words in another language with some picture in my mind. The Chinese for 'give' for instance is easy, since it is pronounced 'gei'. For bank (yin hang), I think of a sign hanging (hang) in (yin) the bank, with a big dollar sign. It is harder for some words, but it does make it easier. ;-)))) Good answer by Far, by the way.
