Tips on how to write an outsatnding answer
Hi,
italki is not only a place where you can find language partners and friends but it is also a great resource for students who want to improve their writing skills. I am a teacher and I often "take" some of the topics discussed here from time to time and these can serve as the starting point for a classroom debate.
Students can even take more advantage of this site if they are more aware of the principles that govern the writing of a good argumentatative essay:
Before writing about a question, you can start by doing the following:
1-Write the question on a piece of paper.
2-Think about three or more supporting/opposing statements. Jot them down.
3-Use connectives like: Firstly, in addition, furthermore, besides, etc...
4-Think about specific details to explain your statements. Use : indeed, in fact..
To make your essay look more interesting and convincing, you can do the following:
5-Think of the opposite opinion and write down three or more statements
6-Use: "It has been argued/asserted/said that" , "some claim that" to show you are aware of the opposing opinions.
7-Write down the opposing statement and add your own opinion using :" However, but, though, etc.."
8-To end your essay, use concluding connectives like :"in conclusion, in summary, .." and write a general statement that sums up your opinion.
