========================

"Somebody To Die For" by Hurts

I could drag you from the ocean,
I could pull you from the fire,
And when you're standing in the shadows,
I could open up the sky,
And I could give you my devotion
Until the end of time,
And you will never be forgotten
With me by your side.

And I don't need this life!
I just need...
Somebody to die for!!!
* sound effects with his voice -- no actual English words *
Somebody to cry for!!!
...When I'm lonely!!!

When I'm standing in the fire,
I will look him the eye,
And I will let the devil know
That I was brave enough to die,
And there's no hell that he can show me
That's deeper than my pride
Because I will never be forgotten!
Forever, I'll fight!

And I don't need this life!
I just need...
Somebody to die for!!!
* sound effects with his voice -- no actual English words *
Somebody to cry for!!!
...When I'm lonely!!!

* chanting -- no actual English words -- makes it sound angelic and matches up with the imagery of Jesus Chris and Mary *

Don't go gentle into that good night,
Rage on against the dying light...

==========================

By the way, the last two lines, "Don't go gentle into that good night,
Rage on against the dying light...", are from a well-known Villanelle by Dylan Thomas. Essentially they mean to not give up against darkness, evil, all the problems in the world, etc, but to keep going on for goodness. :)

Grammar Contained In This Song:

1. Can / Could: "I could drag you from the ocean", "I could open up the sky", etc.

He is mentioned everything that he can do if required to.

2. Future Tense: "And you will never be forgotten", "I will look him the eye", "And I will let the devil know", etc.

He is stating what definitely is going to take place if the right conditions are met.

3. Progressive Tense: "When I'm standing in the fire"

Some Phrases In This Song Explained:

1. "And I will let the devil know that I was brave enough to die." -- Here "to let (someone) know (something)" means "to prove (something) to (someone)". You are making something known to someone as proof. By dying standing up against evil and dying for God, he will be proving to the devil that the devil is wrong and that even if other men are afraid to stand up against devil, he is not.

2. "And there's no hell that he can show me that's deeper than my pride" -- This means that the devil can torture him in any number of ways... maybe by tearing his soul apart, gnawing on his bones, etc, but it does not matter because his pride is more powerful and he will carry out his devotion to God no matter how painful it is.

3. "I will look him the eye" -- When you look someone in the eye, you are standing up against them and letting them know that you will not put up with what they are doing. I guess this is kind of an English idiom, which is why I am mentioning it here.

I meant to type "He is mentioning everything" instead of "He is mentioned everything". Sorry for the typo.
