Are you proud of your country? If so..Why are you proud of it?

I'm proud of Colombia. Why? Historically we have suffered the consequences of violence and government's administrative irregularities. Even so, we're dreaming of a better Colombia. I'm proud because we've endured it and we're still fighting it. I'm proud of my country's landscapes and typical food as well. As you can see I'm a truly Colombian proud. How about you? Are you proud of your country?

Being "Proud" of ones country is not a bad thing - it's positive. However, the majority of peoples' understanding of "proud" is actually a form "veiled Nationalism". Nationalism is the most dangerous product of the late 19th and early 20th century. More people have died "for their country" out of a supposed "duty" or "proudness" (what is often termed "The love of ones country") than for any other ideological construct. Thus, it is crucial to make this distinction between emotions and ideology. Being "proud" of your countries’ achievements is positive, war and conflict in the name of proudness AKA nationalism is negative. It’s very easy for “proudness” to be hijacked by governments and military to pursue an agenda. Governments can and do use this notion of proudness against their own populations. You can easily create and Us vs Them environment when you have a population that is fiercely “proud” to belong, proud of their culture, proud of this or that. Suddenly, anyone who doesn’t fit this mould is an outsider – racism and discrimination can ensue. The sentiment can even be used to start wars or conflict with other states, or within ones own state. So by all means be proud, but do not be nationalistic – or at the least – do not invoke the spirit of “loving your country” to discriminate against the broader community within or outside your borders.

I'm proud of my homeland, the USA, warts and all. We have historically enjoyed a relative abundance of individual liberty, and its people are generally friendly and hospitable.
