Carry On by Olivia Holt from Disneynature's Bears : A Great Song To Sing Along With To Learn English

Here is another song you could learn English from. This song comes from Disneynature's new movie called "Bears" which is out in movie theaters across America right now. I took my niece to see it recently. Anyhow, the lyrics are sung clearly and displayed in the YouTube video, and are written below. I typically do not like country music, especially commericial country music, but one genre of country music that I absolutelu love is bluegrass and this song has what I consider more of a bluegrass sound to it. So beautiful! So American sounding! An what an inspirational song too!!! Remember this song when you are getting frustrated with learning English and wanting to give up. Just like in this song, you have friends on italki to help you understand the grammar and meanings of sentences and words. You will Carry On! :) Hehehehe

If you are in China or some other part of the world which blocks YouTube, let me know and I will get you a copy of the MP3 to listen to. :)

Carry On by Olivia Holt From Disneynature's "Bears"

There's always gonna be some canyon in the way.
There's always gonna be a river I can not cross.
Somewhere along this path that's chosen me,
I know I'm gonna fall down, feel lost, feel weak.
But wherever it leads...

No one said this would ever be easy, my love!
But I will be by your side when the impossible rises up.
We will travel this life well-worn,
No matter the cost, no matter how long.
We will leave our footprints behind
And carry on, carry on, carry on, carry on!

Some will write you off before you ever start.
Some will say the journey's just too hard.
Somewhere between right here and the other side
There will be fear and doubt in the deep dark night.
But we will survive, yeah!

No one said this would ever be easy, my love!
But I will be by your side when the impossible rises up.
We will travel this life well-worn,
No matter the cost, no matter how long.
We will leave our footprints behind
And carry on, carry on, carry on, carry on!

We may fall behind,
Lose miles along this road.
We will be alright,
I will never let you go.

No one said this would ever be easy, my love!
But I will be by your side when the impossible rises up.
We will travel this life well-worn,
No matter the cost, no matter how long.
We will leave our footprints behind
And carry on, and carry on...

Jonathan, "gonna" is a slang word so you should only use it with friends. Never use it at an interview, while giving a speech, in a paper for school, or anything formal or important. With friends though, it is totally acceptable and a lot of Americans use it.

As you can see, it is even used in songs which are casual anyhow. Bluegrass is a type of American country music which has a very "casual" feeling to it. Maybe some would call it music for "country folk." Hehehehe. But whatever, I love bluegrass!!! :) If you look at my other discussions, you will see that I posted lyrics to an electronic dance song remixed by Tiesto that also used the word "gonna", so it isn't only exclusive to country music or bluegrass. :)

I've got a question Shawn, is "gonna" a proper word to use for writing? Nice lyrics by the way.

Shawn: Thanks for your reply. I will check your other discussions later, I'm too tired right now. Maybe you'll want to put the name of the discussion about the dancesong you were refering to in this discussion, I don't know how else to find it. I'm not familair with Bluegrass, countrymusic so far I only like the voice of Dolly Parton.

Best Regards Jonathan
