Do you know some wise proverbs or sayings (from your country), that helped you?

Some wise proverbs have helped me in the past:

Like: "The eye of the master, made the horse greased." (Which is literally translated from Dutch). Helped me to understand that: if employers, watches you every move on the workplace, you intend to do your work tight, so the job is well done. However when I'm not under survaillance from my boss, things get a little out of control :). Or not, actually I'm a very tenacious person. And like to do the work the way I had in mind, if suddenly things change for example: a new task when the job I'm currently working on must stop, I blame the boss to his face and say: Let me finish this!

Which brings me to the next saying: "Do one thing at a time" Actually, you always do things with time. But "time can be against you", but I'm against time and usually I lose. I've watched the Brain Game (National Geopraphic) studying the effects of multitasking in if considered it's actually worth doing or can be done. The show stated that is not so easy to multitask. I knew that along time ago, when I first heard the saying "one thing at a time". It's not worth the effort if you would ask me.

So I want to close of details and leave it up to you: What helped you?

@comandante: That sounds very logical, so I want to be the third mouse, and see if the cheese isn't poisoned :)

@Jonathan: I guess it is because the first one sacrifice it life trying to pass through the trape so the second one will take the cheese without any risk. This is what I understand . Maybe I'm wrong though

"For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side-effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself."----Viktor Frankl in "Man's Search For Meaning"

To continue mouse theme:

Бесплатный сыр бывает только в мышеловке - Free cheese is in a trap only.

This is something that I have said a few times. It's probably not the wisest thing to do, but it has helped me in the past:

Procrastination = Motivation

In other words, sometimes I am more motivated to complete a task closer to the deadline.

Personally, I think there are two types of procrastination: optional procrastination and required procrastination. Optional procrastination occurs when one has plenty of time to get the task done, but the magical moment of motivation is discovered right before the deadline. Required procrastination occurs when one literally has no time to finish that one important task because there are other tasks that need to be done first. Of course, it probably started out as optional procrastination and later turned into required procrastination. :)
