Did anyone read "The Great Gatsby" by F Scott Fitzgerald?

Could we discuss on this novel?

"Most of the big shore places were closed now and there were hardly any lights except the shadowy, moving glow of a ferryboat across the Sound. And as the moon rose higher the inessential houses began to melt away until gradually I became aware of the old island here that flowered once for Dutch sailors' eyes--a fresh, green breast of the new world. Its vanished trees, the trees that had made way for Gatsby's house, had once pandered in whispers to the last and greatest of all human dreams; for a transitory enchanted moment man must have held his breath in the presence of this continent, compelled into an aesthetic contemplation he neither understood nor desired, face to face for the last time in history with something commensurate to his capacity for wonder."

-The last page of Gatsby is the single best page in all of American literature.

@Walter_mellon

Ya, it is a wonderful novel but it is tough to follow.

I think most people get this novel wrong. It is NOT about Gatsby, it is about the growth and maturity of Nick Carraway. Gatsby is a static character, unchanged at the end. Pay attention to Nick's development over the course of the novel. Don't let the title mislead you. At the end, it becomes sadly ironic.

I am reading pasages that describes Daisy and Gatsby met each other.

Her personality is tough to understand. I am wondering that is there any conflict between her behaviors and her personality. Maybe she was lured by Gatsby's reputation and wealth.

Maybe he was just a magician to hide his real person??? This thoght was emerged in my mind when I read your comment "At the end, it becomes sadly ironic".
