When I open the page the first thing I do is cheking for messages or friendship requests. If any of them I answer the messages. Usually I use the online vocabulary Wordreference to find unknown words or to verify the spelling or the phrase construction. If I have a friendship request I check the candidate profile to verify if she/he could be a good language exchange partner for me. 

Then I check if there is any of my language partner available online to chat and sometimes I have a look at their activities here on Italki.
After this activity I check if there are any notes/questions/discussions for the Italian language and if there are open issues or if I have something more to tell I post a message. 

Then I do the same for the English language to improve my knowledge.

Sometimes I look for new language partners or I glance at online people to see who uses Italki (it is just a curiosity).

The overall impression of about one month of using Italki is that it is a good way to improve languages, I appreciate the notes/question/discussion section and also the possibility to find language exchange parthners easily. 
I'd like to have more character space to write personal messages (I'd like I could write longer messages all at once).
The 'problem' I have with Italki is that it takes too much time to dedicate to all this activities, because at the same time I have to  Skype chat, study new words/grammar/phrase construction and every now and again watch movies or listen to songs and again have a look at other interesting language learning web sites. 

I 'd need at least two hours a day available to do this...but I have real life 'too'.
