On Friday of next week, I will be going on my annual Memorial Day Weekend camping trip. I can't wait. We will be camping out at D.A.R. State Forest. "D.A.R." stands for "the daughters of the American Revolution". D.A.R. is located in Goshen, a small town in Western Massachusetts that is so small that a number of us always say "Don't blink or you're going to miss it." whenever we drive through its "downtown" section. However small Goshen is though, it is not lacking in beauty. Yes, there may not be a Starbucks in Goshen and I am going to be going through iced green tea withdrawl while I am there, but there are many breathtaking views and hiking trails in Goshen which you would never find in big cities like Boston and NYC.
My family used to always camp out at D.A.R. every summer when we were kids so this place is very nostalgic for me. Even though that was well over 20 years ago now, I can still vividly remember lying awake in my sleeping bag in the morning and catching the first rays of the sun dancing on the sides of the Coleman tent we had or hearing the soft sound of rain splashing on its surface all around us because the weather decided to be bad. Either way, it was a great time though because I loved the outdoors and nature.
Like every year we go, we will be bringing marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers this year to make smores around the campfire. I would also like to get a fishing license this year so I can spend some time out on the lake remembering all the times I had gone fishing with my dad and my sister. T
his may sound a little strange, but I am also looking forward to taking a hot shower at one of the bath huts before bed. No dirty jokes, people. Let's keep it PG13. Hahahaha. :) I am also buying a new tent this year. Actually, it seems like I buy a new tent every year so I have accumulated a number of them. The one I want is blue, sleeps eight, goes up in under two minutes because it is an instant tent, is big enough to stand up straight in, and is sold at Walmart. It costs $180 USD. Anyhow, I really need this vacation. I have been having way too much stress at work lately and I need to just unplug from the world and life a little bit to unwind.
Have a great time!
We're taking the whole week after Memorial Day off and going to Branson, Mo. We've never been there before, so I'm looking forward to it.
We get Monday off so I also took Friday and Tuesday off from work to get a long weekend. :) Have fun on your trip too. :D
