in some verbs you need to put the verb + ing, but in others  verbs you must put  verb + to.

 like, hate. mind, love. stop. prefer.+ ing. I like driving the red car.

pretend, want. avoid.  need. + to......I want to go

'In English' is the correct way to use it. :D Just like your first sentence, 'I like to read in English.' ^_^
