كل عام و انتم بخير

Hi guys

The phrase that I would like to ask about is this..

كل عام و انتم بخير

From what I know this translates to "All year and you (plural) good" which is used to bless someone after eid, new years or even on their birthday. The word that I`m stuck with is  بخير which means good but from what I know the word خير also means good. What does the ب in بخير stand for if it only means good?

Hopefully I didn`t confuse anyone.

بخير

ب = in

translation : may every year, you are in good health

So, the letter Baa ب comes to provide (adverb) of good

Formal (P) : كل عام و انتم بخير

Formal (singular) : كل عام و انت بخير

Informal (P) : كل سنة و انتم طيبين

Informal (Singular) : كل سنة و انت طيب

Thanks so in other words كل عام و انتم بخير means "Every year and you are all with fine"? yea I always knew that the letter  ب meant with but the tutor never told me anything about it and just said that بخير just meant good. So in other words بخير can also mean "with good" right?

Word for word translation for the phrase is "Every Year and You (group) are good". But the intended meaning for it is : " Every Year and You are all fine.

The ب in بخير is just a preposition. It has diffirent meanings depending on the sentence. Here its called باء الحال which in English means "with".

Hope I didn't confuse you more :)

Hi Erik,

The nearest and most equivalent English translation to this Arabic phrase can be one of these two phrases: Many Happy Returns of The Day or Seasons Greetings.
