Is arabic traditional shoe still popular?
Could you explain why is it raised up on the top?

I think that is very comfortably for walking
I think I've never seen it in Egypt. Of course, it's not popular (or actually, it doesn't exist anymore!)
This kind of shoe is still worn by people in theh villages of Punjab province of Pakistan (and India also I think). It is called Khussa. For ladies, it does not have the front bent part. You can search for pictures of "khussa" in the Internet.
No, it is not popular now. It is popular during the Abbasi Islamic empire before , I guess 1000 years . However, I see some people wear something close to it these days.
