I was and still infatuated with Japanese culture , So I decided to learn Japanese ! I was shoked at first since there is 3 ways to write ( katakan , Hiragana , Kanji ) and that it was hard even for Native speakers . I got cold feet and stopped after a short period of time but I still watch Anime and learn as much as I can about Japan .
After a while I met someone who wasn't native but spoke Japanese with ease, we became friends and He told me that it isn't eazy but it is possible . So I started having second thoughts and decided to give Japanese another chance !
can anyone give me advice on how to learn Japanese and not get cold feet ?
As others say, start from Hiragana is the best.
Because we all start from Hiragana in the first grade in Japanese elementary school.
After we finish Hiragana, we learn Katakana.
Then next we start learning easy Kanji, like numbers.
Don't worry about Kanji.
As many people miss spelling, we usually miss writing Kanji.
In addition, we have more than 200000Kanji, including old types.
Non of us know everything.
So just take it easy(^.^)

I understand you got cold feet at the first time, I felt Hiragana was difficult when I was young.(and now, I am getting cold feet to learn English...)

If you have not the basic of Chinese language, you should start from Hiragana.
If you have the basic of Chinese language, it is one way starting from Kanji.
We, Japanese people start to learn Hiragana in Japanese language.
Hiragana is the phonetic symbol.
My friends who are learning basic Japanese can write only Hiragana (or Katakana too), though, they know daily conversational phrases. In that way, they sometimes respond, talk to me in Japanese. Of course they can't hold conversation freely.
I don't know which Japanese level you're at...why not forgetting about Kanji and Katakana and focus on Hiragana first? After that, I'd suggest you to accumulate a lot of expression.
