What do you think of British English and American English?

In China, teachers always help us to learn British English,i don't know why.Actually i prefer American English. But our teacher said British English is easier to learn than American English.Do you think so?

There is not that much difference. Spelling is a little better in US English. But I am very much used to the British pronunciation. I am from the Netherlands, and the UK is quite close to us. So we are more used to British English. But, since you are from China, you would probably have more contact with the USA? Or maybe in HongKong you would have more British connections. Anyway, I would choose to learn the English with which one is most likely to be in contact. For me that is British English. For you, probably American English. Or maybe even Australian English?

Despite being British myself, I think chinese students should be taught American English ... America is a more important country to China than the uk, 90% of the english media china consumes is from America therefore making it easier to learn. Although saying one is harder or easier than the other is just nonsense....

Same me argument with Chinese, if Americans watched Chinese movies, tv shows and cartoons from a young age they would find it a lot easier to learn Chinese.

British English sounds better to me. Their pronunciation is genuine and I understand what they say unlike Americans.
I have the same problem with French Canadians, when they talk too fast, this is incomprehensible.

They literally eat the words. I do not think it's refined and virtuous.

I think english is english anywhere, I mean, everything depends on what english you are more focused on, you know, if you are used to listening to British english so this kind of english Will become easier for you understand. Try focus your listening and writing in American english and you Will ser that it Will become easier The same way!

Ha ha, yeah, Peter... the Caribbean! I would actually advice anything but Jamaican English. Not even native English speakers can understand them, if they speak their local dialect.
