I `ve just read A farewell to arms by ERNEST HEMINGWAY.I enjoyed it alot but it was too negative and depressing , yet when I read pride and prejudice, although it ended happily I didn`t feel it very much ......enjoyed reading it but didn`t feel the end......is life tragic ? is this why we enjoy tragic novels more?
(correction: Existentialist)
Eva:
I agree with what Eva is writing about. Hemingway was an Exitentialist.
His novels represent a mechanistic perception of Life. Not all authors who are said to be
"great" are enjoyable to read.
As for Pride and Prejudice, it is a beautiful romance, but that does not mean that you will necessarily like it.
I will try to offer some suggestions for you later. Must go now to tutor a student
I want to react on your reading experiences and questions after reading such "joyless" books. The life is about your free will! It was your free will to catch up the book and to read it. The consequence of your bad mood has been reading of the depressed book! Remember it for iternity. Depressed books, magazins, news, tv-shows, surrounding people bring us bad mood. Reading, listening, speaking of beautiful, positive, encouraging, growth supporting words bring us joy, peace, enthusiasm, zest to continue development or rising yourself above all circumstancies.
