Did you completed it? If so, how long did it take to be completed? Or if you have some experience in writing a short novel or tale, please share your experience.
I tried to write some short novel when I got inspirations and some funny thoughts at night. I just jot down whatever in my mind.
but the following day after a good night's sleep, on reviewing the paper, I was in such a shame almost like cringing, and the next thing I know is the paper being thrown into a dustbin. But, I hope I can write a completed novel or fairy tale one day whatever it's long or short.

When i was 13-14 i tried to write a big fantastic novel and even wrote near 200 pages:) but later i lost it and couldn't continue. It was a pity for me. But now I realise how funny and childish it was. But anyway I think it's great when someone try to do something interesting and useful like writting a story.

I have written a few short stories and they are mostly bad, but I feel the later ones are a little less worse than the first ones so I think I'm getting better. To become better, just write as often as you can, good luck :)
When I was about 17 I wrote funny short stories and read them out in class. Somehow this was an absolute girl magnet, I remember. I was a skinny unsportive guy, but many girls liked my intelligence and creativity.
Don't worry, I know what you mean. If you reread the story, it seems not funny since you already know the punch. If you tell the story to the audience that is to be surprised, it works again. It also really depends on how you tell the story. You have to have some feeling of timing and 'articulation' to tell a joke the right way.
