Mr Bean is definitely funny. But watching his show is fun.

Ilene, you couldn't explain these differences better but to limit the confusion for the folks which aren't too familiar with the concept of "funny" yet I would rather simplify saying that something is either:

-funny (really funny)

-funny (strange, weird).

     Ex: "My stomach feels strange." "I feel strange about singing in public." “Isn’t it strange how he’s a university professor, but his son is failing school?” in my opinion would also work although not as Adequately for sure... 

It's not that I'm on a quest to butcher mercilessly the English language but personally I couldn't cope with too many informations when I first learnt it so I guess that it's good for a student to first learn that funny means funny then later on that it can also mean strange and finally that there are more nuances about it ;), Just my 2 cents.

I think it’s quite clear how funny was used in each example even if he’s never read about different meanings of funny before. In other words, word “funny” like thousands of others has literal and figurative meaning. And I think there are also lots of other examples of word “funny” usage …
