What do you know about Red Indians?

I like to learn different cultures. Now I want to know more about the native inhabitants of USA. Thank you for discussion^)

Well, to begin with, it's no longer considered appropriate to call them "Red Indians." "Native Americans" is more polite. I'm afraid that I personally know very little about them, but I will say that there is a very good series of mystery novels by a writer named Tony Hillerman, about modern-day Navajo life.

They are set in New Mexico and Arizona, and deal with the lives of modern-day Navajos and deal with Navajo police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. Apparently Navajos feel that his novels were good portrayals; his obituary says "Occasionally, he was accused of exploiting his knowledge of Navajo culture for personal gain, but in 1987, the Navajo Tribal Council honored him with its Special Friend of the Dineh award."  '"I want Americans to stop thinking of Navajos as primitive persons, to understand that they are sophisticated and complicated," Hillerman once said.'

Hi Steve,  you are doing a great  discourse on the subject and I am reading your remarks with great interest.

Here is what happens when you  hit  "submit"  after typing.

First,  you will see your message;  but if you type something else, or return  after to read your message,

it disappears and may not appear again for several hours.  I also have been puzzled by this process, but suffice it to say,  that what you type and submit   is going to show up again,  but after a  delay of hours or so.

I'm from Siberia, east part of Russia. My country find on Baikal lake. My nationality is Buryat. I heard that my nationality is related with Native Americans. Sometimes I watched my old family photos and I've noticed that my people very similar with Native Americans... So, it's my observation.

I've posted a response twice in the last few minutes - same nature, but typed twice. It disappears when I refresh. I don't know if it is there, but there is some delay, or if it is gone - the behavior is different from yesterday. I'm not going to type it again right now. I'll wait to see if it appears later. If you see the same type of response posted twice, then my apologies - now you know why it was posted twice.
