italki challenge leader board

I may be a bit stupid as far as statistics are concerned but this leader board doesn't make sense to me. Angola first? How can that be? I checked some of the Angolan member profiles and didn't even find one person who ever took paid lessons. And the USA after Mauritius or Vietnam? Same with the language ranking. At least 3 people have to learn the language or it won't appear on the leader board. Here we have first Tagalog, first Romanian and Slovak in the 4th place. Why do there have to be at least 3 participants? And why list average numbers? I'd find it much more interesting to see a member ranking and a ranking of total hours per country/language. Of course, I'm selfish because I'm likely to be the only with Hungarian but do so many hours that I find it a pity they're nowhere included. What does anyone else think?

Thanks for the explanation. I had thought that the strange results might have something to do with "the average number of ...."  and to be honest, I still think it doesn't make sense. Or perhaps you guys just thought too much (your explanation actually suggests this).  I would have done the following:

1. one ranking with the total numbers of all participants sorted by country and including the number of participants per country as an additional information.

2. one ranking with the total number of lessons taken per language

Even Angola were only in, let's say, 20th place then, it would still be amazing because everyone could see that just one member achieved that result. And dropping languages that are only studied by one or two people is simply not fair.

I like statistics but they should be simple and easy to understand - without further explanations :-). Please don't be offended, I really like the challenge and feel it would be worth it to improve this part of it. Perhaps not now, but next time or you could use absolute numbers for the final results.

Here you are: http://promos.italki.com/2014-italki-world-cup-language-challenge-official-page/#.U8QharGiJss

Not to mention that these rankings look totally different from the ones you see when you click on "Full leader board" on the bottom (the ones I was referring to). These statistics just don't make sense to me and I think that's a pity. Or perhaps I'm just missing the point and am too stupid to understand them - but then it would be nice if someone explained it to me (italki staff member?)

...yes that's confusing and not clear. However, as far as Slovakia or Slovak is within TOP 5, I am OK with that, even though it does not make any sense. :D
