I am afraid so that I can only  give you a pretty uncertain answer. Everyone needs another method and it can last a long time to find out whether it is really the right thing to do. I have this hard time with language exchanges right now and I have been sure all the time that it is what works best for me :O

Anyhow, back to the topic. Our job is to give you ideas.

I always recommend reading. It helps very much to learn new vocabulary and to absorb the grammar. I think it only works if you have learned before the grammar rules etc. in an active way. So I would consider is as an additional method rather than an only method for itself. In general, I feel like having a routine of well -mixed methods is the best one can do. Songs indeed can encourage you to learn the language, above all in the beginning. But I don`t know whether they are so helpful to really learn something. However, I would always like Bruce have said include songs because it is a motivation not only for beginners lol even if I don`t consider them as very "effective".

When you cannot find someone to talk with and study with,   learning the words of a song is excellent for practicing your English pronunciation.   Sometimes,  a poem  ( not too long) that you can memorize  can be a very helpful thing.
