This problem has troubled me for a long time, I can remember how to pronounce, but I can't spell them, always make mistakes. Is there a method to remember the spelling?
Thanks a lot.
English spelling is really challenging for native speakers as well (that's why they invented electronic spellcheck -- which I never use, btw). Generally, spelling is etymological, NOT phonetic, so pronunciation is of little help. It helps if you have some knowledge of Greek and Latin ;)
Pay attention to homophones like in the sentence "They're washing their clothes there," since electronic spellcheck isn't sophisticated enough to help in these situations.
Seriously, though, the secret is to visualize the word in your minds eye.. literally "see" the word spelled out, as you imagine the meaning and say the word aloud. Let me ask you, how does one remember Chinese characters?
Hi Tong, it is easier to spell the word rather than to pronounce it. Be familiarized with the phonics , it can lead you to the correct spelling of the words. There are some techiniques that we can use to master spelling.
the simple way to make your prononcenantion is make friends and cotinue conversation with them.................................i hope you fell improvment
Get familiar with the words. Sometimes you can read some English words in the way you pronounce the words like in your native language. I use mine as the example:
I will use a random word just to give you a picture of how it is:
Delicious
I pronounce it as -De-Li-Chi-O-oos- (just for the sake of spelling!! Maybe you can apply this for harder words)
@Teacher Roda @Phil Thank you for your advice, I would try to remember the spelling in your advised method.:) Thanks a lot.
And about the question how does one remember Chinese characters, I treat Chinese characters as pictures, just images in my mind, and then I can write it down. But this way is no work for Engilsh spelling.
