Hi, I am a professional Chinese teacher. If you are a beginner , you should pay much attention to pronunciation first because Chinese have 4 tones that is very difficult for foreign students. You have to often practise to master the tones. You also need to pay much attention to remember many different Chinese charaters' pronunciation(without PINYIN) . English is easy to read and you can't guess the pronunciation, even it is  a new word. But Chinese characters are different.  You must look up how to read in the dictionary. Chinese grammar is very important. Some grammars are  easy to understand, but some are not. I hope this is helpful for you. Good luck!

Hi! The first thing that I would do before I seriously start learning a foreign language would be to find an ideal local language institution. Of course you can teach yourself, but to have some professional teacher with you to together start this tough journey, you will get proper guide and mentor in order not to be misled at the very beginning. Good luck!
