Could you be forced to use a particular language by law?

Today, I saw interesting news on http://www.euronews.com/2014/12/08/merkel-distances-itself-from-speak-german-at-home-idea/

This report is about some German politician who want to introduce a law which states that everybody in Germany has to speak German at home.

The first reaction to this idea was my williness to understand of how they would controll it and how such proposals are possible.

It would be impossible to track down who speaks the local local language and who does not, but I agree with the fact that immigrants must learn to speak the local language perfectly. A friend of mine was in NYC in June and she noticed that most people she met there did not speak any English or their English was very bad, even though they live in an English speaking country. They just refuse to learn a new language and demand others to learn their languages, they demand the government to hire translators for them.

I think this law is very ridiculous, but I can understand the reasons for writing a law like that.

I don't think so! We still have specialists here who have the training to do exactly that. Just 25 years ago, many many homes in East Germany were spied on by the secret service.

See the film: The lives of others/"Das Leben der Anderen" (which won an Oscar)
