what is the best source for colloquial English. The newspapers or the TV programs? I would like to understand the boundaries between the outdated English, the up to date one and the slang and how to study them.

Personally, I'd be careful about trying to learn very much slang before you can speak a language rather well. A standard form always sounds fine; misused slang can seem forced and, sometimes, if used incorrectly, can be embarrassing.

I think that newspapers are good if you want to learn grammar correctly and practice reading formal English. TV is good for casual, spoken English. And as the person above me mentioned, social media is good for learning slang.

Social media would be the best way to keep up on slang/modern English. Many people will be straying away from stricter writing conventions (that you will usually find in newspapers) and will be speaking more true to how the language is used in a casual form. Hope this helps :)

Olá Paulo! Estou aprendendo Português sozinho e poder-lhe-ia dizer que o skype é uma ferramenta muito boa para conhecer a lingua cotidiana. A conversa com um nativo pode ser uma aula maravilhosa. Cumprimentos. Kamenko
