Yes, really! :-) And if you think, this is more logical because...
1) the year begins when nature revives;
2) the months September, October, November and December agree their names with their positions septem (7), octo (8), novem (9) and decem (10);
3) the month with less days is the last one, not the second one; as when you divide a quantity in clusters, the last cluster remains incomplete, not the second one.

In the Republic of Venice, dates have been always expressed with this convention, and "m.v." ("more veneto", Latin for "according to Venetan use") was added to avoid confusion.
