noisy country

Do you consider your country as a noisy country and why ?

I think there are many ways of making noise and It affects us as a human beings.

In my country a common issue is the noisy neighbors specially the weekends until very late or even until the other day. The put the volume of their radios to the highest level even the windows vibrate all the night.

Another issue is the dogs or pets with its continuing barking all the night. Some factories make a lot of noise. There are sellers who walk by the streets with a megaphone anouncing their products. Some motorcyclist don't adjust their motorcycles and they make a lot of noise and smoke.

Tell me your thoughts. what is the situation in your country regarding to the noise ?

I live on a small island lost in the Indian ocean and it's also a quiet place . So when I visit other countries I often feel overwhelmed by the noise ...

We live on a fairly quiet street in a suburb, and in the spring and summer when the windows are open we hear birds, and wind, and trees rustling in the wind--and distant traffic, occasional sirens from fire trucks and ambulances, and a train passing by and blowing a very loud horn every couple of hours.

I feel that the United States is a fairly noisy country, in part because there is an imperative to fill every public space with music. But this is nothing new. In his 1946 essay, "Pleasure Spots," George Orwell wrote:

I have no doubt that, all over the world, hundreds of pleasure resorts similar to the one described above are now being planned, and perhaps are even being built.... Analysed, its main characteristics are these:

1. One is never alone.

2. One never does anything for oneself.

3. One is never within sight of wild vegetation or natural objects of any kind.

4. Light and temperature are always artificially regulated.

5. One is never out of the sound of music.

The music-and if possible it should be the same music for everybody-is the most important ingredient. Its function is to prevent thought and conversation, and to shut out any natural sound, such as the song of birds or the whistling of the wind, that might otherwise intrude. The radio is already consciously used for this purpose by innumerable people. In very many English homes the radio is literally never turned off, though it is manipulated from time to time so as to make sure that only light music will come out of it.
