I'm curious of those of you learning English.
When you dream, do you dream in your native tongue?
If you are proficient in multiple languages, do you dream in more than one language? Do you dream in English?
Anyone that has proficiency in other languages, has your dream switched to another language entirely? In other words, you use to dream in one language but now another.
I occassionally dream in Arabic and French which are the two languages I am learning.
When I'm not silent in my dreams, I usually dream in Arabic :)
I dream in English and Spanish, but I speak English to English speakers in my Spanish dreams if they don't speak Spanish. (As a funny aside - I had surgery about 13 years ago, and when I woke up in the recovery room, I kept asking where my husband was. I was really drugged up and when the nurse said, "I'm sorry I don't speak Spanish", it took me a long time to realize I was asking, "Donde esta mi esposo?", rather than, "Where is my husband?"!)
I Always dream in my native language, but sometime strangers talk to me in my dreams in my second language.
My mother tongue is Yoruba, but I have always spoken English as I was born and raised in London. During a trip to Nigeria as a child, I picked up my language very quickly, but stopped speaking it just as quickly due to being teased for my intonation. For decades after that, I never spoke it again. However recently I found myself at a place where all I wanted was to be able to once again speak my mother tongue and before I knew it, I was dreaming in Yoruba. However upon awakening, I couldn't speak it again. This was frustrating, but a beautiful revelation. It meant that my language lies dormant within, right now I am in a process of reawakening what which I thought was gone, but apparently not completely forgotten.
I dream in my native language. However, once I dreamt that I am talking with one actor who is from Asia and then I communicated with him,in my dream, on English. :D
