A few times young people (under 16) have contacted me to be language partners. I feel like I need to get their parents' permission. I would appreciate any constructive thoughts on this issue.
Hello! In my opinion some people ( under 16 ) can be more serious in studying a foreign language, than people other ages! We are here to help each other!
Hi Tasslya, I totally agree with you, but what if their parents aren't happy about their children speaking with strangers on the internet?
Hi Tasslya and Kirill: I think that you may not have understood my question. My concern was that their parents may not be too happy about their children contacting random strangers on the internet without their knowledge, not regarding their ability or intentions with respect to foreign language learning.
Camilo: I totally hear you, but I didn't want to dismiss the possibility out of hand without some thought. I did a short exchange with a very sweet girl. She told me that her parents knew about it, and I could see that they were checking up on her from time to time, which was good. So maybe it depends on the circumstances.
I have been contacted by 15 year children, and I always ask them if their parents know that they are using sites like this. If I had children I would not allow them to contact strangers on the internet. I always decline their invites and tell them that their parents should know that they are using this site. If their parents allow it, these kids should contact people around their age.
well, then i think we have to respect parents opinion. They are not totally wrong. i mean, there are a lot of bad people in this world, and sometimes it is difficult to trust on strangers.
