Have you ever fasted to improve your health? Do you like it? Do you think it's a good idea? Is it dangerous?
I have been fasting for a couple months now, if you want to call it that. I eat 2 large meals a day, with 8 hours. This means I fast for 16 hrs a day. Some "experts"(lol) say that you should eat many small meals a day, instead of 2 or 3 big meals. I used to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day, but I found that I would feel really bad if I didn't eat every 2 or 3 hours. I felt weak, tired and very hungry after 3 hours. So I changed to 2 big meals within 8 hours. Now I can go all day without food if necessary. I'll be hungry, but I can do anything I would normally do without any problems, and I don't feel terrible.
I fast regularly because I love the calmness I feel while fasting. I know that most people tend to eat more when they're frustrated or feeling bad, but I do the opposite and fast; that makes me feel better. I don’t do it to lose weight or for health reasons to be honest, but I do it to heal my soul. I also fast when I’m happy, for me it’s part of celebrating my happiness :) Fasting also makes me feel the poor people who actually have nothing to eat most of the times, that’s why I insist on fasting regularly. I got used to it, so I actually work out and go for long walks when I'm fasting. For me fasting is a great idea.
As Muslims from the duties of our religion is fasting month of Ramadhan
Fasting begins hour and helf before sunrise until sunset
Incidentally, although there are many sources available about fasting, I got the 16/8 idea from the PHD diet: http://perfecthealthdiet.com/the-diet/
But a more thorough look at fasting can be found in Eat Stop Eat: https://archive.org/details/BradPilonsEatStopEatExpanded5thEdition
I’m not selling anything, and I'm in no way affiliated with these sources; just wanted to share them. @Nevzat & Alexander – you guys have both been doing this for a while, and say it’s a good way to watch calories, but don’t think there are other advantages. Actually, I don’t do it to watch calories, but to feel better. There is a lot of science behind the advantages of fasting. Are you guys saying that you don’t believe in them, or that these things aren’t obvious to you:
• Decreased blood glucose levels
• Decreased insulin levels & increased insulin sensitivity
• Increased lipolysis & fat oxidation
• Increased Uncoupling Protein 3 mRNA
• Increased norepinephrine & epinephrine levels
• Increased glucagon levels
• Increased growth hormone levels
• Decreased food related stress
• Decreased chronic systemic Inflammation
• Increased cellular cleansing
Thank you so much Doctor Leyla! I can't fast otherwise I faint !
As I want to fast someday I will follow your advises Leyla and eat cucumbers and apples and drink mineral water. Fasting is a good way for me to clean my organizm and to clear my mind too.
The days of fast can help us to focus on what is essential in life other than eating ...
As a doctor I may say fasting is not useful always. If person has some problems with his healthy he must be careful.Every person always must eat often and with a little portions.
But you may do fasting day.For this you may choose a day every week. And this day you must drink only water(may be mineral) or eat only apples,cucumbers(1.5 kq).It will help to clean human's organizm. It is nessesary for everyone.
There are three foods you must not eat a lot:
