I suggest you can envolve yourself as much as you can in the English environment. For example: Like me, when I'm at home I usually listen to English videos/ talks like BBC News,,... Or I'd like to read English books/magazines on the Internet, and for this you should read about the topics that interest you. In addtition, when I learn or practice/revise vocabulary, I always learn the group of words that linked each other naturally, therefore this helps me remember the new words more easily. such as some might say " yellow hair", but actually "blonde hair" is more precise and makes you sound more as a native speaker/ advanced learner.

I am sorry but it makes me think of a song in Spanish " Living with my wife but thinking of her " It is hard when you have two languages but it just takes practice. Your brain has to switch and it will learn to that.

I do have a piece of advice for you: listen to more English. It really helped me, and I am sure it will help you. I suggest watching sitcoms such as New girl, how I met you mother, and the like.

Good luck

Not too bad i suppose! Honestly, i use to do the same "mistake" while talking english with friends...oh and i am italian!! I think it's only a matter of time and practice, keep practicing and things will become easier and instinctive!!

I have the same problem only the other way around. I wonder if this happens to bilinguals?
