When I was travelling I was so surprised found that just few people know about my country. It is inconceivable for me beacause Kazakhstan located between politically active countries and has quite large territory.
What do you know about Kazakhstan?
You might be upset to hear this, but the first thing that a lot of people in the English speaking world will think of when they hear Kazakhstan is 'Borat'. Probably not what you want to hear, but this film was extremely successful, and the principal character is supposed to be from Kazakhstan.
I do not know much about Kazakhstan, other than what you yourself wrote, that it used to be part of the USSR, is a large country and has oil reserves. This would be the case for most of the former Soviet countries, I wouldn't be able to tell you much about the history of Belarus, Uzbekistan or Georgia either. As Russia was the largest part of the former Soviet Union I know a lot more about it than the other countries.
I do like to watch boxing though, and there are often good Kazakh fighters in the Olympics. In fact I watched a boxing match with a Kazakh fighter yesterday, Gennady Golovkin, who beat a British guy in a world title fight. He is an excellent fighter.
Oh and to add, like Michael, I could probably find it on a map. And I know it was a part of the USSR but that's all I know. Sorry.
Why would you be surprised that people aren't familiar with your country? You were a part of the Soviet Union up until about, what? 20 years ago or something? (correct me because I'm sure this is not quite right). Just because your country is between 2 politically active countries doesn't mean that brings attention to your nation. It brings attention to the 2 politically active countries.
I can find it on a map (It is quite large).
I know that it is the part of the world where horses were originally tamed and is part of where the Scythians lived in ancient times.
Other than that, I know that it is an oil rich nation and not much else. I have to admit, I don't know a whole lot.
