I want to learn how to say, "How do you say, '____,' in Portuguese?" and other phrases that will allow me to learn in a real setting. The plan is to learn basic conversational Portugeuse, practice that here at italki then travel to Brazil.
Useful Brazilian Portuguese phrases:
http://www.omniglot.com/language/phrases/portuguese_br.php
- How do you say...? Como se diz...? (If you say "como você diz?" is more like "how do you particularly say it?", if you mean "how do people say...?" or "how does one say...?" is "Como se diz...?")
- What does ... mean? O que .... significa? ou O que significa ...?
- Não entendi, pode repetir? I didn't understand, can you repeat?
- Repete mais de vagar. Repeat it more slowly.
- Não sei falar português muito bem. I don't know how to speak Portuguese very well.
- Falo (só) um pouco de português. I speak (only) a little Portuguese.
- Você fala inglês? Do you speak English?
- Pode me explicar? Can you explain it to me?
Foi as que eu consegui pensar, se quiseres mais alguma é só me perguntar. :)
Hi Patrick.
Here in Brazil, we used to say the word "coisa" for everything that we forget or don't know how is named. "Coisa" is a little bit like stuff in English. Brazilian uses this word constantly in their day-to-day. For sure, you will hear "coisa" in Brazil a lot.
For instance:
Eu esqueci minhas coisas no carro. "I forgot my stuff in the car."
Eu não gostei dessa coisa. I don't enjoy it.
You are welcome. I will be glad to hear from you other doubts. I hope you reach your goals.
All the best to you.
