What would be the best way to learn stuff in a language that isn't on any official resource?

As you all know, not everything you need to know to speak a language fluently is on a textbook or a dictionary.  So, what are effective ways to find this information?  For example-"I want to jump off a cliff into the sea while playing the fiddle."  How do you learn these weird but important sentences?
