Experts say that Korean chipmakers might benefit the most from the American government's export ban on China's foundry firm Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC). Through the recent export restrictions, American companies are no longer able to ship their advanced chip materials and equipment to the Chinese company without the U.S. government's approval. This difficulty in obtaining products and technologies from U.S. firms could damage the operations of SMIC and lose its competitiveness in the global market. SMIC is currently the fourth-largest foundry firm in the world. Samsung and SK Hynix are the leading South Korean chipmakers.
