What I remember the most from the day Grans died is Mom literally crumpling to the floor in slow, heaving sobs, holding her stomach like someone had just punched her I have two questions 1. Can someone describe "crumple" here? 2. What does "heave" mean here?

1. In this context, I would imagine "mom crumpling" as falling to the floor; not "falling" that is accidental and results in injury. I imagine "mom" hearing the sad news and quickly kneeling on the ground as if she's too much in shock to stand. 2. In this context, "heave" means "sobbing uncontrollably". Or, you can say, crying uncontrollably. I hope this helps :-) You're doing great <3

Crumpling in this situation means falling to the floor very ungracefully like straight down to the ground like your legs and knees don't support your body anymore (not like when you fall because you tripped over an object) Heave here means huge, uncontrollable, her chest is probably going up and down very dramatically as she's trying to breathe through the sobbing.
