Hi lilith. Oppression occurs when a force, often one that is political or authoritarian, controls a people by limiting their rights and freedoms. Of course, any kind of bullying, discrimination, or control by anyone against anyone can be considered oppression. Prosecution usually has to do with the legal system and the formal procedure of holding someone accountable for a crime, but in this case it means disallowing someone to practice his or her religion freely. It's more common to see the term religious "persecution." Persecuting someone means to treat them in a hostile way, usually because of their beliefs.
