Stay Tuned, comes from a saying TV/Radio presenters would use. As in, "stay tuned, do not turn over to another TV/Radio channel". The last part is simply what will the Scientists do/make next.

From radio stations. You tune into a radio station. You stay tuned for as long as you listen to it.
