veins = commons speech blood vessels = medical speech
veins is not poetic. Veins take blood to heart. Arteries take blood away from heart. Blood vessels are any part of circulatory system. It is though more common to say "blood is rushing through veins."
Yes Florence you are right, veins is more poetic, if you use arteries or blood vessel the sentence would sound like a "medical terminology" and it would not be pleasing to the readers.
She started to panic in fright. Her blood was racing through her veins . You are right. Veins sounds better.
