If the child is old enough to ask this question, you could say: The sky is blue is because of the way the light scatters and moves through the atmosphere

I would say 'God made the blue sky. For we know how beatiful His creations. When we look up in the sky, we wonder how big it is and where it ends. If you put God in your heart you will know why the sky is blue. It gives us a hopes and and eternal life. And smiles with our eyes:) That is for me:)

I would say, "I have no idea. Let's go look it up right now."

Due to the refractive constant of air and other atmospheric particle, light bends away from the normal of incidence and acquires different visual properties (i.e color). :)
