The au sound is correct with a z; but in America we do not do that. We use a long A sound with an s. like "case." We find the correct way just a little snooty- but not to much. I think the reason I do not find it very snooty is because when I hear it said "vauz" I think the speaker is doing it in jest. :) And they usually are -here.

a (vay-se) would be ordinary and a (vah-se) would be in wealthy people's homes and musuems.

The first option is British, the second one is American. Both are correct, but the first one sounds "snobby".
