Stereotypes about Russia. No one is perfect. We all have our own stereotypes. Sometimes it may irritate someone and sometimes we can make fun of them. And we all have some stereotypes about countries where we’ve never been before. In this topic I’d like you to enumerate at least three associations that come to mind when you think about Russia. Don’t hesitate, but be civil (according to the rules of this website). This may be animals, national dishes, persons, weather or something else. Example: -Vodka; - Bears; - Kalashnikov. It’d be interesting to know. Let’s go! :)

It was said by some that the Kalashnikov rifle represented the difference between the Russian and the American philosophies. Its American counterpart, the M-16, was more accurate and precise than the AK-47. However, it tended to jam under non-optimal (read battlefield) conditions. The AK-47, on the other hand, would work adequately under even the worst possible conditions of wetness, dirt and mud. The Americans emphasized perfection in optimal conditions - the Russians emphasized utility under all conditions. I do not say this is necessarily true. However, it was the subject of many discussions, at that time and since. By the way, when soldiers of every nationality (including American) were polled about their preferred weapon (at that time) the AK-47 was the clear winner. As far as the Russian people are concerned, everybody I have know that visited there came back with the Russians as quite friendly.
