How about using 'make the cut' or 'make the grade' in Affirmative sentence?
Does it sound weird in Affirmative sentence? or only used in negative?Thanks

It does not sound strange, but actual usage does usually occur in the negative. "All the prospective players made the cut and will join the team for the first game of the season".
