Both ok. 1)the group of people E.G.The audience was/were clapping for 10 minutes. 2)a number of people or a particular of people E.G.An audience of millions watched the weding on TV. audiences (plural)

The audience was delighted with the game. Audience is singular (audiences is plural). Same with things like team. "The team was delighted with the game."
