Humanism is the belief that morals should be derived primarily from humans, not from the church. It puts forth that human values should have precedence over those of religion. A religious person would argue that murder is immoral because God has commanded it. A humanist would argue that murder is immoral because mankind had decide that it is so and humanity is served by its being immoral.
