How to understand these phrase?
1. Working a 9-5 job
2. Work long hours
Work= a verb, a 9-5 job/long hours= object?Thanks!
And in the second phrase, "long hours" is also the object of "work", isn't it?
working = gerund, and is used here to turn the verb clause into a noun.
"Working a 9-5 job" = subject of the verb "can feel".
Such gerund nouns can be dissected further and compared to the original verb clause where they came from:
work = verb
a 9-5 job = object
But you must learn to see the entire gerund phrase as a NOUN.
