It means the person also misses the positive attitude or "belief" that the other person used to have, "hope" in this case. Hope for both of them as a couple or hope for the future in general.

I guess when the guy was with this person together, he felt hope. Hope for what? I have no idea. But he reckons the hope was shining through her. Oh well. He'll just have to get used to being alone again. ^_^
