Are these the same?
I was thinking about Russian grammar, and I am curious - are these phrases pretty much the same thing?
"Это мой карандаш."
"Это карандаш меня."So, now my question is, when can I use "меня" correctly?
The 1st one is the only correct one. We don't have the structure "it's a pencil of mine" in Russian.

The second sentence is wrong. You can use only the first:
Это мой карандаш
or
Этот карандаш мой

In addition to the previous answer... you can modify the second sentence as follows: "Этот карандаш мой", making the semantic emphasis on the word mine (that is mine, and not anyone else's)

you can use "меня":
Меня зовут Dima - Меня зовут Дима
brother calls me home - брат зовет меня домой
dont touch me - не трогай меня )))
