What does 'I'm wanted' in this sentence mean? I'm confused because it doesn't seem like 'I' is a criminal in the following sentence. "If it happens that I'm wanted badly somewhere, my mother will take the call and phone through to me here."

You're right, not a criminal. "Wanted" could be in the context of the person's work, like a doctor.
