Which of the following sentences is correct?
What I bought today was two apples and three pears.
What I bought today were two apples and three pears.
In my opinion, it should be :
What I bought today were (two) apples and (three) pears.
Anyway, to avoid confusion, I would have used
"The things that I bought today were .....
